What is 1Mentor’s software, and how does it work?

Our software platform equips institutions with real-time recommendations for curricula updating and provides students with personalized skill development insights. Our Machine Learning tech (ML) is trained with university job postings to understand the skill sets required from students and recent grads. We also feed university curricula and student profiles to our ML to understand students' skills.

How does the software provide career guidance and upskilling recommendations to students?

We bring together data from over 170 Million job postings and compare to each student's specific skill set and interest. By understanding the demand for skills and what the student has to offer, we can provide personalized upskilling opportunities for students to reach their full potential and guide them on new career paths that fit their profile. Finally, through our partnerships with Udemy, Coursera, EdX, and Skillshare, we connect students directly with the right course for their learning needs.

Is the software tailored to specific industries or fields of study?

This is changing. When we started, we focused on understanding the S.T.E.M. and Business fields of study as our team had the most expertise in these areas. Although S.T.E.M and business-related majors remain at the center of our product, we are continuously expanding to new fields and majors. How are Specialized Skills defined?

Specialized skills (or hard or technical skills) are specific to each job, position and seniority level. This type of skill can be demonstrated in a measured way through objective metrics. Mastery of these skills require practice!

Can the software be integrated with a school's existing systems and databases?

Yes, 1Mentor was built with the mission of helping students and institutions evolve with industry quickly and efficiently. As such, we pride ourselves on having developed a product that can easily integrate with most school systems.

How often are the career guidance and upskilling recommendations updated?

Constantly! Our model scrapes information from the web in real-time, so users are always up-to-date with the latest insights on careers and skills of their interests.

How does the software ensure student privacy and data security?

1Mentor follows the NIST SP800-53 cybersecurity framework to establish an information security program that ensures user, client, and company data security and privacy. Particular attention is placed on safeguarding Personal Identifiable Information. 1Mentor also follows the fair information principles established by PIPEDA and is complying with the requirements of the EduCause Higher Education Community Vendor Assessment Toolkit.

Is there training or support for teachers and administrators on using the software?

Yes! Our software has been developed with a priority on ease of use, so almost all users should fully understand the platform upon completing the onboarding tutorial. However, we also offer complementary virtual seminars to help all users get started. Our customer success team is always available for questions and feedback regarding 1Mentor’s software and your experience.
